Its tough to describe this wedding day – it was all at once fast paced, fun, relaxed, full of love and beautiful. I have decided to break it down even more than I originally thought – this post will cover the getting ready, the formal photos and the church wedding. This happens often with destination weddings as there is just so many layers to the story. I’ll post the Champagne lunch and the family photos and reception at the Chateau in the next post because the party at night really deserves it’s own post – it really was fantastic.
We started out the day at Amelie’s parents farm – greeted by peacocks and cows I wandered into the house and found everyone super relaxed. With matching Louboutins and a gorgeous custom made Valencienne dress: Amelie and Chris decided to get ready together and my favourite moments during this time is them just being together and the way they interact. The family and friends that were all around were also relaxed – lunch was made by Amelie’s best friend, hair and makeup for all was done by her cousins, there was laughter and teasing and just plain ease.
We had to go quickly through the formal photos as we had rain off and on throughout the day and it looked like a pretty rough storm was coming (didnt happen though – yay!) so the blue you see in the sky was legit that colour!
We took photos around her family farm and then headed out to her Grandmothers for the rest of the photos in a beautiful tiny little stone chapel. The car was cool, the temperature cooler and everyone wore big smiles of happiness for these two. Pausing to take more photos in the fields before heading out to the church the sun finally broke and gave us a little warmth – thank goodness.
When your father is the mayor of a small town it means that the whole town is invited so when I first looked at the church that seats about 100 I was scratching my head trying to figure out how it was going to work. Despite the rain it went just as Amelie said – all the villagers gathered around the outside of the church and watched from the door. The beauty of it is that Im certain they didn’t see much but it was more about coming to see the bride, showing support and being there to greet and congratulate them as they exited. I really felt like Amelie didn’t just belong to her parents – she belonged to the whole town – former teachers, childhood friends, acquaintances of her parents all came to start of their marriage with love and well wishes and show this daughter of the town how much they cared. I can’t say enough about Chris’ friends and family either – they were so warm and friendly towards me and definitely made me feel included and just like another member of the family. Enough gushing though! On to the photos…
