Words have been failing me over the last week – I have sat at my laptop a few times trying to find the best way to describe this wedding and its been hard but here is the best I can do in a way that I think they will appreciate…
Your wedding was like a concert
Full of life, smiles, music, laughter and dancing a true celebration of life and love and your story as if it were the main act
Your wedding was like a festival
the theme and genre was love and it was toasted and shared in the bright eyes of all you thanked and hugged
Your wedding was like a family
People who were related and friends alike woven into the tapestry of memory and time
and quite simply your wedding was effing amazing 🙂
Ok so that was weird – I’ve never written a metaphor before -I have no idea if I did right but who cares – besides if anything I know Emily and Casey will like it! This wedding, it was so many things – I am not sure that even my metaphors describe the day. Those same things could be true for a lot of weddings but how these two went about starting off their journey together was definitely one of the most unique ways I have ever been a part of. Rewind to when Casey and Emily hired me – sent to me by their sister (thanks Katie) they came in and talked about how they were surrounded by artists in their family and every day life (through music and visual arts) and wanted someone to capture everything with an artistic eye. They had plans for a very different kind of wedding and they wanted to make sure that everyone that attended enjoyed themselves in a way that they maybe hadn’t at other weddings. First thing to go was a church, in a concert hall on a stage officiated by their best friend who had flown in from Dublin these two exchanged their own vows. When I thought about how best to introduce you to Emily and Casey I thought maybe a few verses of their vows would help. Since Casey loves metaphors – they wrote their vows full of them and honestly they were so beautiful in such a personal way that I know they moved myself and everyone there. I can only share a few lines as they’d prefer to keep all of them private but these are the ones that struck me most.
“Our love is like a big city, vibrant, never dull and ever changing. We can walk for hours and never see the same thing twice. Our love is a tent in the woods, it is breathtaking and totally natural. It’s you and me and a bunch of trees, just the way we like it” – Emily to Casey
“Our love is like a Microscope, it lets me see all the wonder in the world that is right in front of me. Our love is like a Kaleidoscope, it is wonderful, magical, colourful and weird. It is inspiring and always changing and as it changes I look at new things through the lens of our love and everything gets better” – Casey to Emily
Those words were just so personal and beautiful – there is more but I just appreciate being able to share those. Those words describe how much wonder they find in each other – in my own marriage of 8 years I will agree that the best moments are the ones that we look at each other and our love in wonder. It is important to be a constant student in your partner – always learning as we go through different stages and changes in life. These two are simply perfect together – even in any imperfections. The support of their friends and family explained to me how they found each other – they both have parents that have been married for a long time – shining examples that true love is hard work but overall enjoyable if you pick the right partner. Their families were incredibly supportive of their vision and in fact Emily’s mother MADE her wedding dress, her sister created the art installation of lamps on the stage around them (that reacted to the noise around like music and laughter), and Emily’s dad made the gorgeous marquee sign you see behind them during the ceremony. The three bands that played during their reception were all friends and some even came as far as Yellowknife to perform). They didn’t even have a traditional wedding party – instead they had a “wedding team” as all of these people were recognized for contributing during the day. Tears were shed, there was much laughter and an incredible amount of graciousness – the day was just beautiful. Emily and Casey it was a real honour for both Brianne and I to be a part of your day – I only wish we could have stayed longer but I hope you both can see in the images just how much we both loved being a part of your day. Here is their story…
This next moment is super funny – since they opted for a first look these two had already seen each other that day and as they would have naturally done – when they separated at the end of the aisle the kissed and then Emily realized NOT YET lol
Isn’t Casey’s Grandma gorgeous?
Loved this moment when Phil was talking about Casey and Emily’s parents and their love – Emily Mom seemed to tear up – without a word her son laid his hand on his Mom’s arm for support and her husband looked at her with such love – these are the moments I live for at weddings.
So much life and love – honestly every moment of it was pure gold – even the dinosaurs 🙂
