This past weekend was amazing! A day full of love – tradition and laughs. Colleen – Jochen and their families were warm and welcoming and ever since we met them in February I knew we would have a good time. I shot this wedding with my husband, Bryan and there’s nothing better to me than looking over at him during those pivotal moments in the ceremony and reliving our wedding day. I know he reads my blog from time to time so I’d just like to publicly say how thankful I am for his support and that he shares my passion for photography ๐
So back to Colleen & Jochen – two wonderful people that have turned out to be more friends than clients. For their wedding we were welcomed into the family and were able to get some amazing shots. This couple is one of those couples that you can look at and just see the love that radiates between them. Colleen a music teacher and Jochen a professor of Math at University of Waterloo are not only fun to be around but extremely thoughtful people and Bryan and I would just like to thank you again for including us in your day as well as inviting us to brunch the next day ๐ I can’t wait until your trash the dress! Here are the things I love about these two . . .
1. That they are intelligent without being overbearing about it – When we had our first meeting with them we ended up discussing art, music and (the large part of the conversation heh heh) the US primaries (mostly the democratic race at that point) It was so interesting to me to discuss world politics with people who were knowledgeable about the issues and understood the importance of what was happening.
2. That, despite how intelligent they are, they are not above being silly. During the engagement shoot Jochen brought up that he wanted to do a “blue steel” face and for those of you who have watched Zoolander you will understand what that means. Needless to say neither one of them could keep a straight face during that part of the shoot. This definitely played out on the wedding day with the addition ofย Iiore (hope I spelled that right) who is one of Jochen’s friend from when they went to Carnegie Mellon – Iiore is Finnish and hilarious. Between him and Jochen the wedding party (who were already pretty relaxed and hilarious in their own right) had a riot. Bryan and I spent most of the wedding day in stitches – between the silliness during the formals and the funny speeches – the day passed so quickly.
3. That the wedding took place in the same church as Colleen was baptised in and all of the photos were taken on her parents farm – which they have had basically her whole life as well. The day was a perfect blend of both of their lives though as so many of Jochen’s friends and family from around the world joined them.
4. That Jochen is super sarcastic and has a really great sense of humor that made getting shots of them laughing really easy – as well as kept us in stitches
5. That Colleen is beautiful on the inside and the out – when I heard that they were including her students from her music class in their wedding day it just struck me as so thoughtful. You can just tell that about Colleen though – to be her friend and to know her is to know someone with true grace and kindness
OK so this list could go on for quite awhile but I’ll save some of that for a later blog post when we do their TTD ๐
Here are a few photos from the day!
