WELCOME TO MY BRAIN…

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of shooting two engagement sessions – first up is Nathalie and Paul’s Niagara on the Lake engagement session. They love to make each other laugh, to compete with each other and tease each other – I knew this was gonna be a good session as soon as we started. Nathalie and Paul were SO much fun! I giggled more than was probably appropriate and if anything their engagement session has made me even more excited for their wedding. So I’m going to go off on a bit of a tangent a little bit but it is important for me to be able to share with you who I am and what I love to shoot so that if you are looking at booking with me you know if its a good fit.

For the most part I try to stay away from props especially at an engagement shoot. With the popularity of Pinterest I see some pretty crazy set ups for engagements and weddings and it bothers me when it isn’t authentic. I always tell my couples that if they are going to bring something or if we are going to have a theme it needs to be relevant to their relationship or who they really are. I’ve had couples bring Mr. Potato Heads, quilts, special books, food, wine, and many other things but all of them were a part of who they were as a couple or as individuals. I love incorporating things or places like where you had your first date and in Nathalie and Paul’s case their first date was at a sushi restaurant. Since that sushi place is closed we had a sushi picnic, since they like to play scrabble that’s where I shot her ring, and since they like enjoying each others company and some wine that’s what we did.  I want to photograph images that if your grandchildren were to look at them they would see who you are and perhaps recognize things that are still a part of your relationship in the future. It’s so easy to get caught up in what looks pretty but it’s more important for the longevity of the images and their legacy for them to be completely authentic and tell the story of your love.

Thank you to Nathalie and Paul for such a fun time – I love love love your photos because you held nothing back and you were just completely yourselves. I hope you love them as much as I do!

Aww feeding each other sushi

The theme of these photos is laughter – it’s what they do constantly while in each others company

Not to be outdone Nathalie had to give Paul a piggy back too!

Ok so for anyone who knows Nathalie – these images will probably make sense but for strangers out there – she is quite the personality – Nathalie loves to be silly and apparently Paul is up for being just as silly too – I think that’s the best part of the whole session – just how much they made each other laugh (although I think Nathalie made Paul laugh more!)
