I met Rachel when she was the maid of honour for Jen, one of my Bride’s from the year that Aiden was born – in fact I shot Jen’s wedding one week after his birth! When Rachel contacted me about her day I was excited to work with her again so we met for coffee so I could meet Oliver and we could chat about some details. A short meeting turned into something much longer when we started talking about politics, the wedding and so many other topics. That’s the way it often goes when I find link minded people and we get to chatting about anything and everything. I love this though – I really feel like my job is to tell people’s stories and when people let me into their thoughts and opinions I feel like its just one more layer that helps me understand who they are.
The morning of the wedding Rachel was incredibly relaxed – just easygoing and ready to see Oliver. It’s funny – Rachel and Oliver chose to read a reading during their ceremony called “These are the hands”. I have mentioned it before on my blog because it is a reading that I had at my own wedding. How fitting that it opens with “These are the hands of your best friend” – because Rachel and Oliver really are best friends.There was no nervousness about the marriage for either of them because they just knew that it was the right thing – together are just so completely at ease that you would think that they have already been married for many years.
At the end of the aisle Oliver was getting antsy – we were running a few minutes behind and he asked if we could get things going – I looked at him and didn’t see impatience because of the schedule – I saw impatience to see Rachel, to have her next to him. When you find your “best friend” – your soul mate for life – you just want to be with them or be near them. As she came into view and she walked down the aisle – his shoulders relaxed – he took a deep breath and smiled just a little. This is the mark of true love on our insides – we feel calmer and more at ease around the one we love – like somehow the whole world makes more sense because they are in it.
We had just such a beautiful day full of love and laughter and I know Precious and I were honoured to be a part of the beginning of your family. Thank you again for including us and hope you love the photos as much as I do!
